Shadow Tower Abyss was announced on 22 August 2001 and released in Japan on 23 October 2003. An English version was being developed by Agetec, but the project was cancelled by Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA), its publisher, prior to completion. A fan translation was released in 2011.

Unfortunately, the game was released only in Japan, however, many fans from the first game created a fan translation, which was released in 2011 and can be downloaded for free.[1][2]
